I'm a Happy Girl!

Now I am convinced that meeting Cindy Morgan last week has broken the meet-no-see-no-celebrities-in-Nashville curse. Yesterday, my girlfriend JeRee (from work, we carpool together!) had an extra ticket to a Martina McBride concert and invited lil ole me! Yahoo! I got to get all gussied up and go have some fun! I used to be somewhat of a country fan in the early-mid nineties before it got all "un-country" and well, just plain stupid. I was an avid listener of Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Martina McBride, John Michael Montgomery, Little Texas, Patty Loveless, Wynona, and some others . . . but I stopped listening so much after high school.

The concert was at the Ryman auditorium, where there are no "bad" seats. Still, we had really good ones! The sound was awesome, and the building was just beautiful. We sat in wooden church-style pews (as the Ryman was first as church - and is still used for some church services)

Martina did an hour of songs off of her new album, Timeless, which is a tribute to her favorite artists that she grew up listening to like Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, etc. Since watching Walk the Line a few weeks ago, I have had a renewed interest in the older country music and in Nashville's history. The music was so much simpler and uncomplicated; the lyrics were heartfelt and real, but no abusive or outrageous like so many are today. I can see why those were the "good ole days".

The second half of the show was from Martina's other records, which I knew most of! She has a clean, powerful, BIG voice for such a little gal. She was fun and energetic. Her songs were all either positive and fun or had a really powerful and clear message. I am a sucker for "When God-fearin' Women get the Blues" and "My Baby Loves Me Just the Way That I am". I sort of thought, "man, I need to listen to more fun music!"

I know this sounds like a review . . . maybe it is! I just couldn't help but write about how incredible of an experience this show was! She renewed my faith in (some) country music. Groups like Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson just make me go "YECCKKKKKK"!

Oh, man! I love Martina McBride's music. I am so jealous! I think it's great you took a picture, though! I've never seen her in concert, but would like to. I'm glad you're getting to see celebrities and singers. You've been near Nashville long enough! It's about time. :-) (Oh, and I totally agree with you about Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson! YUCK!)

Ya Ya
