Did you all know that MC Hammer has a blog? It's pretty interesting actuallly. He's not a shabby writer either.
It definitely took me back to my childhood - specifically, those wretched Jr. High days. My friends in the neighborhood and my little sister and her friends would take our jam-box to the back deck in the summers and make up dance routines to music like MC Hammer, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, Boyz-2-Men, Gloria Estefan . . . we were white girls, black girls, Mexican girls, whatever . . . we just loved to dance! We sweated and laughed, and sometimes fought over who would get to be the "choreographer". If my memory serves me right (and most likely it doesn't) we weren't too bad, either.
I remember how ecstatic I was when my grandmother made and mailed to me a pair of purple Hammer pants (or as some called them, diaper pants). I was the epitomy of coolness, only to myself, but they still made me feel like jammin' out to "You Can't Touch This!"
In college, my friend, Shawna, and I would joke about how we weren't really white on the inside because we - two white, middle-class, English major, church-goin', girls - LOVED hip-hop, r&b, and rap. LOVE it still. Not all of it, mind you, a good deal of what's being churned out today is just trash, but there's some good stuff out there still! It was too funny; we'd drive to Sonic and just get down with Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, OutKast - and yup - we knew ALL the words. Now, we have kind of moved on from that I guess, but I still need some hip-hop every now and then.
I'm just an eclectic kind of girl I guess. Jason is too. Our CD collection is pretty funny. It can go anywhere from Mozart to No Doubt, Amy Grant to the Rolling Stones, Latin Salsa to Ray Charles - we love it all.

Oh PLEASE tell me you have a picture of you in those Hammer pants!! I think it would make our friendship stronger if I saw that! How hilarious! Were you 2 legit 2 quit?! And I absolutely love Jonah's picture. I hope you have that framed somewhere; it will only prove that you provoked him to be a rocker at young age!
Oh, and I figure I might as well make myself look foolish...I remember when my younger sister had a sleepover for her birthday and I was allowed to have a friend over. For 'fun,' we put on a concert for them with my new cassette tape of a Prince album. We Had our bathing suits on and used my mom's tube tops as skirts. We were talented ladies and, if I do say so myself, we put on a fantastic show!
Hammer pants, huh? That is too wild! Ah, the mental images that came from that! :-) TOO FUNNY!! The crazy thing is that I am married to the whitest white man on the face of the earth! White boy got no rhythm and white boy can't sing. Oh, and he HATES hip hop and r&b. It makes for some interesting moments, considering I love it. And he HATES it when Alex dances to hip hop and r&b. Alex LOVES it! He loves anything with a good beat. It's too funny! I remember dancing in the back yard to C&C Music factory and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch! Yup, most of it was better back then. I wonder what it will be like when Alex and Jonah are in high school. :-)
